About Auckland

The beautiful water bound city we call Auckland is often referred to as “the City of Sails” by locals which becomes a nickname with no need of an explanation after a second of arriving in the city. If you love sailing you already have a one up advantage for picking up locals. Being the largest city in all of New Zealand with a little over 1 million people and 200,00 being pacific islanders. The Business district in Auckland is the county's financial center and due to the emphasis the city puts on finance, commerce, tourism, etc it's considered to be a Beta World City. If Aukland doesn't already sound like an amazing place then it’s greatness can be verified by the fact that the city often gets ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world and that the Global livability ranking done by the the economist intelligence unit ranked auckland number 8. For all the outdoorsy travelers make sure to catch the unique sight of the black sand beaches. With just a short ferry ride you can get to Rangitoto Island where you will find the most amazing volcano and can take hikes while observing the wildlife. Another site whose beauty will leave you mind blown is the Waiheke island where you will find vineyards, olive groves, farms, and beaches; the best part is this sightseeing can be done all while you sip on some fresh quality wine.

Gay Auckland
Beginning with the Big Gay Out, a non profit fair day to find an end to HIV, Auckland hosts a huge lgbtq+ pride parade in August it is written in the guide that its a "not-to-be-missed day of music and celebrating". New Zealand is exceptionally progressive with gay rights and since 2013 same sex marriage has been legalized. Before Europeans began to come into New Zealand the Maori people had no negative view of homosexuality. The Maori word Takatapui means an intimate partner of the same sex and is a word that is part of the language of the lgbtq+ community. Auckland was the 15th country in the world to allow same sex marriage and with the county's strong progressive mindset, now Auckland even has some openly gay parliament members.

Gay Nightlife

Auckland is well known for a lively and crazy nightlife. On Karangahape Road on the south part of the city you can find many bars and nightclubs; this area is often called “rainbow strip’ because of the large percentage of gay locals coming to hang and party here. Make sure to hit the Family Bar for eccentric music and mind blowing drag shows. Whether you're into the bears of the twinks the nightlife here will make your jaw drop with the Aussie men of your preference. At the eagle bar where you will encounter games and sexy bears.
