Kastro Bar is perched above the Little Venice seafront, positioned to capture the Mykonos sunset in conditions of exceptional beauty: the old fishing houses overhanging the sea to the right, the iconic windmills on the hill above, and the Aegean stretching westward to the horizon. The sunset ritual at Kastro — arriving early enough to secure a position, ordering a drink, and watching the sun drop into the sea with a crowd of gay travellers who understand they are in one of the world's best positions for exactly this experience — is one of the defining Mykonos moments. The bar is classical in its approach, without the beach-club energy of the Super Paradise venues or the late-night intensity of Pierro's: it is a bar for the early evening, for conversation and views, for the moment before the night begins. The cocktails are well-made and the staff efficient enough to keep the crowd supplied without disrupting the contemplative mood that the setting naturally induces.
