Lido degli Angeli on the Posillipo coast is Naples' established gay beach — an unusually rare amenity for a major Italian city, where most gay beaches require a significant journey from the city centre. Posillipo is one of Naples' most scenic coastal neighbourhoods: the promontory that forms the western jaw of the Bay of Naples, lined with villa gardens and offering views across the water to Vesuvius and the islands. The Lido is a private beach club with sunlounger hire, a full bar-restaurant and the organised infrastructure of a classic Italian stabilimento balneare. The gay section is clearly established and well-known to the city's LGBTQ+ community — no rainbow flags are displayed externally, but the clientele identifies the space. Active May through September; peak months are July and August when the beach is busy from morning. Evening aperitivo on the terrace, with the Vesuvian sunset backdrop, is one of the most spectacular experiences Naples offers. Access by taxi from Chiaia takes about 15 minutes.
