Orgullo Madrid — Madrid's annual LGBTQ+ Pride celebration — is the largest Pride event in the world. The week-long programme in late June/early July culminates in a parade along the Paseo del Prado from Atocha to the Puerta de Alcalá that draws 3.5 million people — a figure that has made Madrid the undisputed capital of world Pride. Madrid hosted WorldPride in 2017 (3.5 million attendees, described as the largest LGBTQ+ gathering in history) and again in 2025. The Orgullo calendar builds across the week: the massive free opening concert at Atocha (100,000 people), street fairs in Chueca, the Calle Pelayo terrace culture at its maximum summer intensity, club nights, community events, and finally the parade itself on the Saturday. The parade route — from Atocha railway station up the Paseo del Prado and Paseo del Retiro, past the great museums, and terminating near Cibeles — is one of the most architecturally spectacular parade routes in the world. The sheer scale of 3.5 million people on the streets of Madrid for a Pride event is difficult to convey; it is the single most attended LGBTQ+ event anywhere on earth. For visitors planning a first-time Madrid experience, combining it with Pride week is the obvious choice — with the caveat that accommodation books out entirely months in advance and prices reflect the demand. Book as early as possible.
