BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:-//GayOut//Event Export//EN CALSCALE:GREGORIAN METHOD:PUBLISH BEGIN:VEVENT UID:141199@gayout.com DTSTAMP:20260727T080805Z DTSTART:20260730T120000Z DTEND:20260730T140000Z SUMMARY:From Access to Belonging: LGBTIQA+ People with Disability at Even ts DESCRIPTION:July is Disability Pride Month –\\; a time to celebrat e disability identity\\, culture\\, community\\, leadership\\, achievemen ts and rights.\\nTo mark the month\\, the Office of the Commissioner for LGBTIQA+ Communities\\, Inclusive Rainbow Voices and the Accessible P ride Project and the Victorian Pride Centre are co-hosting a lunch-and -learn about creating more accessible LGBTIQA+ events.\\nThe event is for :\\nLocal council staff\\nLGBTIQA+ community organisations and services\\ nDisability organisations and workers\\nEvent organisers\\, venues and co mmunity leaders.\\nLGBTIQA+ events and spaces can be important places of affirmation\\, friendship\\, chosen family\\, safety and belonging. Howev er\\, people with disability can still be excluded by physical\\, sensory \\, communication\\, cognitive\\, digital\\, financial and attitudinal ba rriers.\\nAccess is not something to be added at the end of event plannin g. It should be built into how an event is designed\\, communicated\\, de livered and evaluated with and for people with disability. As disability support systems continue to change\\, organisations must not assume that an individual NDIS plan or support person will compensate for an inaccess ible event. We all have a responsibility to ensure people of all abilitie s can connect with and feel like they belong in their communities-of-choi ce.\\nAbout the session\\nThis one-hour curated panel is intended to rais e awareness\\, share different perspectives and begin a broader conversat ion about accessible event practices to improve experiences of LGBTIQA+ p eople with disability.\\nLed and informed by the lived expertise of LGBTI QA+ people with disability\\, the panel will include people with disabili ty\\, community\\, service and event-planning expertise.\\nThe discussion will cover:\\nThe different barriers people with different disability ma y experience at LGBTIQA+ events\\nWhy accessibility\\, belonging and part icipation matter\\nThe importance of involving people with disability in planning and decision-making\\nPractical examples and lessons from commun ity events and accessibility initiatives\\nQuestions organisations can as k when planning\\, communicating and delivering events\\nAreas in which o rganisations can and should involve LGBTIQA+ people with disability in fu rther consultation\\, resources\\, training or organisational change.\\nB ecause accessibility needs differ between people\\, disabilities\\, commu nities and event settings\\, this session will not provide a complete acc essibility curriculum or cover everything organisations need to know.\\nI nstead\\, it offers a starting point for reflection\\, further learning a nd ongoing work with people with disability.
