SUMMARY:The Sufi's Nightingale Musical
DESCRIPTION:The historic Strand Theatre is proud to present the world-pre
miere musical adaptation of Sarbpreet Singh’s acclaimed\\, bestselling
historical novel\\, The Sufi’s Nightingale. Written and composed by Sin
gh\\, this queer-affirming production traces the extraordinary spiritual
metamorphosis of Shah Hussain\\, a 16th-century scholar who turns away fr
om a rigid seminary to become the celebrated “King of the Malamati Sufi
s” in medieval Lahore.Told from the poignant perspective of Maqbool\\,
an intersex acolyte who serves as Hussain’s “nightingale\\,” the na
rrative explores the “unity of opposites”. When the handsome Brahmin
youth Madho storms into Hussain’s life\\, it ignites a mesmerizing saga
of passionate love\\, jealousy\\, and deep mystical devotion. Over time\
\, their individual identities beautifully merge into folklore\\, leaving
a legacy that still celebrates the ultimate triumph of love over law.The
production features:Live Musical Ensemble: Features brand-new\\, origina
l compositions by Sarbpreet Singh based on classical Ragas\\, weaving tog
ether 16th-century spiritual poetry (Kafis) by Shah Hussain\\, Damodar Gu
lati\\, and Raskhan.Mesmerizing Choreography: Original choreography by ac
complished Bharatanatyam dancer Juhi Chaudhary\\, beautifully blending tr
 aditional Sufi dancing\\, Kathak\\, ecstatic sama\\, and dhamal dance.Tim
eless Relevance: A unique representation of the rich culture of the India
n subcontinent that directly touches on contemporary themes of universal
love\\, faith\\, and the “othering” of those outside societal norms.P
