DESCRIPTION:Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) is a rare autoimmune bleeding d
 isorder. It causes the body’s immune system to destroy platelets and/or
  limits the production of new platelets. This affects the blood’s abili
 ty to clot.\\nITP can occur at any age. It affects both children and adul
 ts. The specific cause isn’t known. There is no cure. The number of peo
 ple with ITP at any given time in Australia and New Zealand is approximat
 ely 9.5 per 100\\,000.\\n2026 will be the 11th year that Global ITP Aware
 ness Week has been held internationally. ITP Awareness Week (21–27 Sept
 ember 2026) is a designated week during which individuals worldwide come 
 together to raise public awareness of the rare autoimmune disease\\, immu
 ne thrombocytopenia\\, and to spotlight the ITP patient experience.\\nAs 
 part of the #LightUp4ITP campaign\\, landmarks across Australia and New Z
 ealand will light up Purple to support those living with ITP.\\nOld Treas
 ury Building will be lit in purple for this event from sunrise to sunset.
