DESCRIPTION:“Seeing the Garden” is a painting class with instructor J
 ames Keul\\, Durham-based artist and avid gardener\\, focused on direct o
 bservation of the cultivated landscape at Duke Gardens. Working in waterc
 olor\\, students will interpret light\\, atmosphere\\, color and spatial 
 design through careful study of the natural environment. The class emphas
 izes slow looking and close observation\\, encouraging students to experi
 ence the gardens not only as visitors\\, but as artists interpreting a li
 ving landscape. Participants will explore how pathways\\, plantings\\, se
 asonal color\\, water and architectural elements create visual rhythm and
  composition within the garden. Through an instructor demonstration\\, sh
 ort studies and a guided painting session\\, students will develop practi
 cal plein air painting skills while deepening their appreciation for hort
 iculture\\, ecology and landscape design. All levels of experience are we
 lcome. If you have watercolor supplies that you like to use\\, bring what
  you have\\; otherwise\\, materials will be provided. Rain date: October

 Center.\\nAccessibility: This will be a small group program that takes pl
 ace outdoors in a location that requires traveling on a combination of pa
 ved and unpaved paths with some uneven surfaces and moderate inclines. Pa
 inting is done from a seated position on a bench\\, the ground or a bould
