A reception is to follow from 4-6pm in the gallery. This event is open to all students\\, faculty\ \, staff\\, and the greater Rochester community. \\nDescribing their work \\, the artists say\\,\\nAnne Muntges:\\nThrough drawing\\, sculpture\\, and site-specific installation\\, I map the hidden infrastructures of the environments we inhabit\\, balancing my gaze between the collective syst ems of the city and the intimate\\, domestic taxonomies of personal survi val. My practice examines the constant friction between our desire for in dividual privacy and our total reliance on the structures\\, spaces\\, an d strangers around us. Using technical pens and other drawing tools\\, I translate these transient moments into life-sized environments\\, turning flat drawings into walkable architectural ruins that embody the tactile weight and immateriality of shared time.\\nThis slow\\, obsessive draftin g process functions as a continuous\\, systematic archive. My work stems from navigating a massive\\, overwhelming emotional and environmental wei ght\\; for me\\, the only way to survive it is to build a beautiful\\, me ticulous cage around it with thousands of tiny ink lines. Whether I am do cumenting the overlooked systems of public maintenance or sorting through the fractured pieces of my own everyday coping mechanisms\\, I treat the page as a psychological ledger. This fiercely disciplined method gives a profound sense of permanence to the fleeting markers of our surroundings \\, proving that tracking the invisible upkeep of a city is deeply tied t o the daily preservation required to keep a human life in motion.\\n \\nT his investigation moves fluidly between the microscopic and the monumenta l\\, living in hand-held ephemera and scaling up to rigid wooden framewor ks layered with heavy\\, wallpapered paper. By constantly balancing disti nct drawing styles and building deep nuance directly into the surfaces of these objects\\, I create a crazy\\, immersive world that pulls the view er entirely inside. Ultimately\\, this grounded\\, deeply human accumulat ion of marks serves as a physical record of endurance\\, creating a space where we are forced to confront what it feels like to pay radical\\, urg ent attention to the fragile systems that keep us whole.\\n \\nMizin Shin :\\nBlended Complexities examines the omnipresence of the industrial corn economy through the lens of everyday consumer goods. The work maps an ex pansive index of consumption\\, tracing corn as both a central ingredient as well as an invisible presence underlying many industrial manufacturin g processes. Dispersed throughout our daily routines\\, fragments of this single crop reveal the quietly expanding infrastructure of modern capita l and production. While Blended Complexities is depicted as a mapping of connectivity through corn\\, it acts as a broader critique of system rela tionality and how diverse material items (and the economies surrounding t hem) are fundamentally linked.\\n \\nMore about the artists:\\nAnne Muntg es (b. 1982) earned her BFA in Printmaking from the Kansas City Art Insti tute in 2005 and her MFA in Printmaking from the University at Buffalo in 2008. Based in Brooklyn\\, she focuses on highly detailed drawings\\, pr ints\\, and installations. Her work has been exhibited nationally at the Children’s Museum of the Arts in Manhattan\\, the Ukrainian Institute o f Modern Art in Chicago\\, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffal o. Most recently\\, her work is featured in Monumental Drawing at the Mor e Museum in Gorssel\\, NL. Muntges’ art is held in collections such as the California College of the Arts\\, the Library of Congress\\, the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection\\, and the Burchfield Penney Art Cente r. Among her numerous accolades\\, she was awarded the NYFA/NYSCA Fellows hip in 2014\\, Sustainable Arts Finalist in 2021\\, and Interlude Grantee . Since 2010\\, she has participated in prestigious residencies and fello wships\\, including the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts\\, BRIC\\, the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program\\, and the Monira Foundation Artist Residency.\\n \\nBorn and raised in South Korea\\, Mizin Shin is a US-bas ed visual artist. Regularly leading printmaking workshops with collaborat ing art organizations\\, Shin focuses on both traditional and contemporar y printmaking practices while promoting a multidisciplinary approach to t he medium. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at institutions across the United States\\, Belgium\\, Spain\\, the UK\\, In dia\\, and South Korea. She was a juror for The Paths We Cross: Perspecti ves from the Korean Diaspora\\, 2022 Screenprint Biennial\\, and 2021 Sou thern Tier Biennial. Shin is the recipient of several fellowships and awa rds\\, including the Civitella Ranieri Fellowship\\; the University of Ro chester Humanities Center Faculty Fellowship\\; the Andrew & Barbara Choi Foundation Project Grant\\; and Genesee Valley Council on the Arts.Mizin Shin graduated from Hong-ik University with a B.F.A in Printmaking and r eceived her M.F.A from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Shin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art & Art History at the U niversity of Rochester as well as a co-founder of Mirabo Press in Buffalo \\, NY. She has served as a board member of the Mid-America Print Counci l and vice president of the Print Club of Rochester from 2020–22\\, and a board member of Visual Studies Workshop from 2023-25.
