SUMMARY:TransWeek 2026 Keynote: American Genocide: America&#8217\\;s Eras
 ure of Transgender People
DESCRIPTION:American Genocide: America's Erasure of Transgender People P
resenter: Nicole Pauling Genocide in the United States doesn’t resem
ble Germany’s industrialized killing\\; it works through erasure\\, eli
mination\\, and the narrative machinery of the American Story. Because Am
ericans are taught to recognize genocide through the Holocaust’s visibl
e and foreign model\\, they often miss the quieter\\, longer forms embedd
ed in U.S. history—policies of silence and elimination carried out thro
ugh the forced removal and cultural destruction of Native peoples and the
ir modern echoes. Today\\, the systematic targeting of transgender indivi
duals—through bans\\, forced detransition\\, and the removal of rights
and resources—follows this familiar historical pattern. Grounded in fra
meworks such as the UN definition of genocide\\, this talk examines how t
hese practices fit within broader eliminationist traditions and challenge
s us to recognize genocide even when it wears an American face. &nbsp\
