SUMMARY:OFFSITE: Minnesota&#8217\\;s AIDS Generation
DESCRIPTION:About This Event\\nBy 1995\\, one gay American in nine had be
en diagnosed with AIDS and one in 15 had died – a decimation of the gen
eration of gay men born between 1951 and 1970. Minnesota&#8217\\;s AIDS g
eneration are now senior citizens\\, but thousands did not survive. This
is a painful chapter in our state&#8217\\;s history\\, but also a hopeful
story of a besieged community&#8217\\;s resilience. Award-winning writer
Brian Malloy will examine the era&#8217\\;s moralization and politicizat
ion of the disease and provide a personal history of how gay men and thei
r allies came together to save lives in the face of a largely indifferent
and hostile nation.\\nSpeaker Bio:\\nBrian Malloy is the author of novel
s The Year of Ice (St. Martin&#8217\\;s Press)\\, Brendan Wolf (St. M
artin&#8217\\;s Press)\\, After Francesco (Kensington)\\, and the young
adult novel Twelve Long Months (Scholastic). His novels have been a 20
02 New York Times New and Notable title\\, an Oprah Daily pick for be
st of 2022\\, a 2021 Women&#8217\\;s National Book Association Great Grou
p Reads selection\\, and a 2009 Book Sense Pick.\\nThis work is funded in
part by MHC with money from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund that was
created with the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4\\, 2008.\
