SUMMARY:Standing Up for Freedom: LGBTIQ+ Rights and Activism in Türkiye
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to defend LGBTQI+ rights when activism itse
lf is increasingly being criminalized?Join us for a conversation with Izo
t and Doğa\\, two human rights defenders from Türkiye\\, who will share
their experiences of defending queer people's rights in an increasingly
hostile environment. In recent years\\, activists in Türkiye have faced g
rowing restrictions on freedom of expression\\, assembly\\, and associati
on. Despite these challenges\\, LGBTIQ+ activists continue to organize\\,
advocate for equality\\, and build communities rooted in solidarity and
resistance.Through personal stories and firsthand insights\\, Izot and Do
ğa will discuss the current situation for LGBTIQ+ people in Türkiye\\,
the challenges facing the queer movement today\\, and the importance of i
nternational solidarity. The conversation will be followed by a Q&A sessio
n with the audience. The event will be moderated by Patricia Kaatee\\, Pol
itical Adviser at Amnesty International Norway. For security reasons\\, no
photos or videos may be taken or shared during this event.Date: Thursday
