The Royal Vauxhall Tavern is the oldest surviving gay venue in London and probably in Britain. The building dates from 1863 and earned Grade II listed status in 2015 — the first gay venue in the country to get that recognition. Princess Diana came in disguise in the 1980s. Duckie has run here for decades. The cabaret nights that made this room famous still run, alongside drag, comedy, and late-night dancing on Fridays and Saturdays until 4am. In 2025 the owner put it on the market after running it since 2014. Annual turnover sits around £1.7 million. Christie & Co are handling the search for a new tenant. For now, the venue is operating as normal with a full programme through 2026.
