Queen's Head on the Zeedijk is Amsterdam's most famous drag bar and one of the most distinctive gay venues in the city. The bar is built around its nightly drag performances — shows run most evenings, with the Friday and Saturday nights drawing standing-room-only crowds for well-produced cabaret with a rotating cast of Amsterdam's best-known drag performers. The venue itself is compact and intimate: a ground-floor bar with a small stage, canal-window seating, and an atmosphere that manages to be both theatrical and convivial. The location on the Zeedijk places it between the leather world of Café 't Mandje and the mainstream world of Reguliersdwarsstraat — a useful geographic metaphor for its position in the Amsterdam gay scene, which is welcoming to all comers but has its own specific drag-and-camp identity. Queen's Head is one of the venues that fully justifies the 'go early or don't bother with a seat' principle: arrive before 9pm on weekends or expect to watch the show standing at the back.
