In times lgbtq+Q individuals in Missouri have been granted similar legal rights as non lgbtq+ individuals although they still encounter legal obstacles not faced by other residents in parts of the state such as St. Louis, Kansas City and Columbia. Same sex relationships are legally permissible in Missouri.
The state of Missouri acknowledges same sex marriages. A court ruling that overturned Missouris ban on same sex marriage mandated the issuance of marriage licenses to same sex couples by the City of St. Louis. Moreover St. Louis County and Jackson County also permit same sex couples to obtain marriage licenses. The U.S. Supreme Courts decision in Obergefell v. Hodges on June 26 2015 invalidated the denial of marriage rights to same sex couples nationwide including those, in Missouri.
