Reykjavik Pride 2026

Reykjavik Pride is statistically the most attended Pride event relative to national population anywhere in the world: the event draws over 100,000 people each August in a country of 370,000 — approximately one third of Iceland's entire population joins the celebration. The Pride Parade moves through the centre of Reykjavik during the midnight sun period, when the Arctic light gives the city a specific quality that is unlike any other Pride setting in the world: golden, long, and seemingly eternal as the sun barely sets below the horizon in August. The event is held in a country that legalised same-sex marriage in 2010 by unanimous parliamentary vote, that had the world's first openly gay elected head of government (PM Jóhanna Sigurdardóttir, 2009–2013), and that introduced self-declaration for legal gender recognition in 2019. Reykjavik Pride week runs for several days, with Kiki Queer Bar, Gaukurinn, Paloma, and other venues hosting special events alongside the main Saturday parade. For LGBTQ+ travellers, Reykjavik Pride in August combines the world's most proportionally significant Pride celebration with the extraordinary natural environment of Iceland in the midnight sun season.
