Burkhart's has been the cornerstone of Ansley Square — the small commercial node at Piedmont and Monroe in Midtown — for as long as most Atlanta regulars can remember. It is a video bar in the classic sense: screens covering every surface, playing a mix of music videos, reality TV, and whatever is trending in pop culture, at a volume that allows conversation if you lean in. The crowd is authentically neighbourhood — local gay men in their thirties, forties and beyond who stopped here before going elsewhere and stayed all night. The drinks are affordable, the staff are efficient, and the atmosphere is entirely free of the self-consciousness that affects some more high-profile gay venues. Burkhart's survives and thrives because it fills a need that no nightclub or trendy bar can fill: the neighbourhood pub where you actually know people. The Ansley Square location puts it equidistant from Piedmont Park and the Cheshire Bridge corridor, making it a natural stop on any Midtown bar crawl.
