📸 Suggest PhotosCritical safety notice for LGBTQ+ travellers: Uganda passed one of the world's harshest anti-LGBTQ+ laws in May 2023 — the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 — which includes: • Death penalty for "aggravated homosexuality" • Life imprisonment for same-sex sexual conduct • 20 years for "promotion of homosexuality" • Mandatory reporting of suspected homosexuality The US, UK, EU and many other countries have issued travel advisories. The World Bank suspended new lending to Uganda over the law. No openly gay venues operate in Uganda. Any venue listed as "gay" is operating underground at extreme risk to its patrons and staff. We strongly recommend LGBTQ+ travellers reconsider visiting Uganda at all. If you must visit: • Tell no one of your orientation. • Avoid dating apps — police entrapment is documented. • Stay at international-chain hotels only. • Register with your embassy. • Memorise local LGBTQ+ legal-aid contacts (Sexual Minorities Uganda was forced to close; HRAPF still operates).
