Bar Dos Gardenias takes its name from one of Cuba's most beloved boleros ? the song of two gardenias, of love offered and lost ? and the choice is deliberate. This is a Vedado bar with a consciously romantic, old-Havana sensibility: dim lighting, cocktails in proper glasses, and live music that runs toward traditional son, bolero, and nueva trova rather than reggaeton. The crowd is mixed and the atmosphere is gay-friendly in the organic way of Vedado's better establishments ? nobody is checking anybody's orientation at the door.
