Gran Canaria — specifically Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés — is one of the most established gay destinations in Europe. Sun-seekers from Northern Europe come here year-round, and the scene around the Yumbo Centrum is self-contained enough that you could spend a week without leaving its orbit.
Maspalomas Dunes
The most famous cruising spot on the island — a protected natural reserve of over 1,000 acres of sand dunes, accessible from the Maspalomas end. The primary gathering point is known as "Hut 7" (La Chozo 7), reached from the Riu Palace Hotel or the Cita Shopping Center. Activity peaks in the afternoon and early evening. Bring water — the dunes are genuinely remote once you're inside.
Yumbo Centrum
The commercial and social hub of Gran Canaria's gay scene — a shopping centre in Playa del Inglés that transforms into a nightlife complex from early evening. Gay bars, clubs, and restaurants across multiple levels. Mykonos Bar, Buddies Bar, and Cruise Bar are among the established venues here. People flow between the complex, nearby saunas, and the Darkroom Bar throughout the evening and into early morning.
Darkroom Bar
A dedicated cruise bar near the Yumbo — themed underwear and fetish nights throughout the week. The kind of place that fills up after midnight and runs until the early hours. Check their schedule for specific event nights.
The Hole
Inside the Cita Shopping Center in Playa del Inglés — darkrooms, private cabins, and regular themed nights (leather, nude parties). Lower key than some of the Yumbo venues but consistent.
Sauna Heroes
The main sauna in Playa del Inglés — sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and private cabins. Laid-back atmosphere, mixed crowd of tourists and regulars. Good option for afternoon visits before the evening Yumbo circuit.
Gay-Only Accommodation
Gran Canaria has several men-only gay accommodation options — Ritual Maspalomas and Paso Chico Bungalows both have pools, bars, and terrace areas where the scene continues during the day. Staying at one of these puts you immediately in the social circuit.
