France is broadly LGBTQ+ friendly, particularly in Paris and other large cities. Strong anti-discrimination law has been in place since 1985. Rural attitudes can be more conservative but overt hostility is uncommon.

Yes — France legalized same-sex marriage in May 2013 (the "Mariage pour tous" law). Same-sex couples have full marriage rights including joint adoption.

Paris (Le Marais — the historic gay quarter), Nice (Cote d'Azur scene), Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse and Montpellier all have active gay scenes. Saint-Tropez and Mykonos-style gay resort culture exists in summer on parts of the Riviera.

Marche des Fiertés (Paris Pride) is late June and draws hundreds of thousands. Lille, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux and Toulouse hold Pride parades between May and July. The southern Riviera has additional summer LGBTQ+ events.
