The Library Malate

At a time when paying taxes can sometimes feel frustrating—especially when we see stories of public funds being wasted—it’s refreshing to come across places that remind us where our taxes can make a real difference. This Monday morning, we spent a few hours at the Children’s Library section of the National Library in Kalaw, Manila, and it was such a pleasant surprise. Imagine a Kidzoona, but filled with books and designed to spark a love for reading. The space is spacious, colorful, and incredibly kid-friendly. Every corner seems thoughtfully designed to encourage children to explore, read, and learn. There’s a wide selection of books for different ages and interests, and they even conduct scheduled storytelling sessions to make the experience more engaging for young readers. Most importantly, it’s completely free and accessible to everyone. Places like this are a reminder that public institutions can still create meaningful experiences for families and children. A true gem in the heart of Manila, and one that makes you appreciate where some of our tax money goes.
there is a lot of people hanging around outside, it's crazy. Outside it looks like an abandoned building, looks so old. Then upon entering u have to register first, it's a quick process and there's an option to buy the pvc id for 300 pesos but we didn't and they just give you a paper for your username and code then go up to the 2nd floor, its very spacious but it's just a long table with an extension so u can charge gadgets. But it would be nice if there were only tables for 2 people like that, if there are many people u have to share tables with other people. Wifi connection isn't really that fast, but the aircon is good and quiet inside. How i wish there were cubicle types so u can really focus on studying just like in japan and korea. They also have a nice cr and a small cafeteria downstairs
An absolute haven for studying and remote work! The staff and security personnel are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the entry process smooth and pleasant. The study / research area has plenty of large tables, each with 6 universal plugs for all your devices. Their WiFi is incredibly fast and stable, even with a packed room of people studying and downloading resources. The comfort rooms are clean and feature bidets, though you'll need to bring your own tissue paper as none is provided. The lifetime library ID cost 120 PHP if you want to avail the PVC card (the registrstion itself is free but is it just printed in a small piece of paper, it is best to avail the PVC card if you will frequent this place). Highly recommended if you need a focused, reliable place to get work done!
Nice historical place at the 4 th floor. I even got my library ID for 120 P
