Parco Sempione is Milan's version of New York's Ramble or Paris's Bois de Boulogne: a large, well-frequented central park that doubles as the city's primary outdoor cruising area after dark. The park occupies 47 hectares behind the Castello Sforzesco, stretching west towards the Arco della Pace. The cruising area is concentrated near the Arco della Pace end and in the wooded sections beyond the artificial lake — particularly active from around 22:00 in summer. The park is well-lit along its main paths (reducing safety concerns) but sufficiently forested in its interior sections to provide cover. The Porta Venezia gay bar strip is a 15-minute walk; many men move between the two in a single evening. The park is busiest in warm months (May–September). Winter activity exists but is reduced.
