Fairmont Hotel Macdonald

Gorgeous hotel. Comfortable beds. Exquisite food. Server was brilliant. Think her name was Maria. She was so helpful and knowledgeable. Pool was warm, whirl pool a little too hot so prepare! They've a hotel dog which brought me such joy.

A beautiful building close to nature, downtown services, and public transport. However, the real charm of this hotel is its staff: old-school friendly and helpful.

The roads around the fairmont are terrible. Even in my truck it felt like we were off roading driving in the area of the fairmont. The stay was amazing and rooms/service was perfect. The only down side was the food at the confederation lounge. It was average at best, the diner menu had a terrible selection of choices and the price was exorbitant. For 2 burgers with fries (which was average at best) and one beer ended up being $93.00 without tip! I’ll never eat there again but will stay at the hotel.

My experience at Fairmont Hotel Macdonald was terrible from the moment I arrived. I checked in late at night after a very long 20-hour flight and was exhausted. Upon entering my room, I immediately noticed several issues that should have been identified and resolved before the room was assigned to a guest. There was no water in the room, and one of the lamps was not working. Given how tired I was after traveling, I did not have the energy to request a room change, but these basic issues should never have been present in the first place. Things only got worse when I tried to order food. I called in-room dining five times and received no answer. I then contacted reception and asked to be transferred to in-room dining. As soon as I was transferred, the call was disconnected. I called reception again, and they told me someone would call me back to take my order. I waited for over an hour, and nobody ever called. As a result, I went to sleep hungry. The next morning, I wanted to make a coffee, only to discover that there was still no water in the room. At that point, I called reception and explained all the problems I had encountered and how disappointing my experience had been. The response I received was simply, “How can we help you now? We can have breakfast delivered to your room.” Given my experience with in-room dining the previous night, I declined. The receptionist then suggested that I come to the restaurant for breakfast. There was no sincere apology, no acknowledgment of the seriousness of the issues, and no effort to make things right. Also, I asked for water in the morning but due to my terrible experience of waiting too long for in room dinning I told the receptionist I don't want anything from you and she said so you dont want water. What a terrible response. Instead of insisting on providing a better experience after what happened yesterday its like they didn't care. I paid approximately CAD $450 for this stay and was shocked by both the poor service and the complete lack of concern for my experience. In other hotels where I have encountered even minor issues, staff have gone out of their way to rectify the situation by offering a late checkout, complimentary breakfast, or another gesture of goodwill. At Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, it felt as though nobody cared. Also, there were only two large cups which were provided for both tea and coffee, so they are expecting you to drink tea then wash your cups to drink coffee in a huge cup. This experience was completely unacceptable and fell far below the standard I would expect from a luxury hotel. If I could give this hotel 0 stars, I would. Based on my experience, I would not recommend staying here.

Had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel for Mother’s Day. I was greeted by a wonderful young lady at the front desk named Amran, who took the utmost care of my mother and I. She gave us a free room upgrade and had chocolate covered strawberries + macaroons in the room waiting for us. She had great knowledge of the city’s places to be and restaurant recommendations which saved us from struggling to search and decide things. Every call I made to the front desk, Amran was happy to help and arrange whatever I had asked for. Bell staff and spa attendants were also very kind, however the hostess and manager at the Confederation Lounge unfortunately did not meet the same standards. Thanks to everything else, especially Amran’s impeccable hospitality, we weren’t phased by the treatment at the restaurant/lounge. Thank you Amran for such an amazing experience and delivering that Fairmont brand level of standard. I hope the hotel recognize her and reinforce her professionalism, skills and commitment. You are a star.
