Indy Pride is Indianapolis's annual LGBTQ+ Pride celebration, held each June at Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. The event has grown into one of the larger Pride celebrations in the American Midwest, drawing more than 50,000 people to Military Park's open grounds for a full-day festival with multiple stages of live entertainment, a large community organisation and vendor presence, and the celebratory atmosphere of a city that has built a surprisingly vibrant queer community against the backdrop of a conservative state. Military Park sits adjacent to the Indiana War Memorial complex and within walking distance of downtown Indianapolis's hotels, convention centre, and entertainment districts, giving the event a central and accessible location that maximises participation. Indy Pride has grown steadily over the years as Indianapolis's LGBTQ+ community has grown and become more visible, and the event now draws attendees from across Indiana — from smaller cities and towns where the Pride event may be less welcoming or nonexistent — as well as from neighboring states. The June timing follows the Indianapolis 500 weekend in late May, creating a late spring/early summer stretch in Indianapolis that is unusually event-rich. Talbott Street and the other Indianapolis gay bars host official and unofficial Pride events throughout the weekend. For LGBTQ+ visitors planning a Midwest Pride trip, Indianapolis in June offers a festival of genuine scale and warmth in a city that is more interesting and more livable than its national reputation suggests.
