Studio 13 is Iowa City's only dedicated LGBTQ+ nightclub, tucked into an alley off the downtown Pedestrian Mall at 13 S Linn Street. Open since 2000, it celebrated its 25th anniversary in December 2025 — a remarkable run for a queer venue in a Midwestern college town, and a testament to how central it is to local gay life. The club packs a lot into a small footprint. Expect drag shows several nights a week, DJ and dance nights, karaoke, comedy and regular community fundraisers, plus recurring queer programming such as its monthly Pride Poetry night. The crowd is a friendly mix of University of Iowa students, locals and visitors, and the vibe is unpretentious and inclusive. Because it's the one reliable gathering point for the community, Studio 13 also functions as an informal hub during Iowa City Pride week each June, when it hosts satellite parties and shows. For LGBTQ+ travelers passing through eastern Iowa, this is the spot to find an authentic queer night out.

Went here to visit and this "gay" bar was mostly just women. I went on a Thursday and Friday night during summer so that possibly contributed. Either way it wasn't anything life changing.

Favorite place to go- even on the weekdays! Bartenders are always super nice and welcoming (if I could name them all I would!). Never have I ever felt uncomfortable or unwelcome there. Everyone is always super nice- plus you can’t forget to take a pickle shot with Dilly the bartender before (or after) watching the show ♥️ plus they have fun games over at AlleyCat.

We drove an hour, paid $60 for tablets,had a great spot in front of stage. The crowd was allowed to stand right in front of us.surrounded our table so heavily some of us couldn't even sit down. We saw very little of the show. Great service, good atmosphere, but the $5 people, totally blocked the people who paid DOUBLE. I was not impressed. We will find our drag shows elsewhere.
