Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

My family and I love to travel and after staying at many different hotels, I have learned the importance of reading reviews and finding the right place to stay. After our experience at Portola Hotel, I can confidently say: look no further — this is the hotel you want to book! The hotel is beautiful and in the perfect location. It sits right in the heart of downtown with tons of great food options nearby, and even the farmers market is right outside the hotel. It is about a 20-minute walk to Cannery Row, aquarium, and only about a 5-minute walk to the wharf. The location made exploring Monterey so easy and enjoyable. My wife and I absolutely loved our stay. The rooms were amazing, very clean, and comfortable. We stayed in a Garden Suite, which I highly recommend. Having two chairs outside on the patio overlooking the garden was such a great touch and made the stay even more relaxing. Last but certainly not least, the staff was incredible — friendly, efficient, and professional. One person truly stood out: Chris, the concierge. She went above and beyond to make our anniversary special. She helped me with recommendations for a flower setup in the room, took care of every detail, and had everything prepared perfectly before we returned from dinner. Her professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made a huge difference. Chris deserves recognition — every hotel should have someone like her on their team! Thank you, Chris, and thank you to the entire Portola staff for making our anniversary such a memorable experience. We will definitely be back!

Really a super amazing dog friendly hotel in the center of Monterey, literally a few hops and a skip away from the wharf ..

The Portola Hotel in Monterey Bay was so beautiful! The rooms had the perfect vacation vibe. As for the few cons, a lot of things were wrong with our room like our toilet and it took a while to get fixed which was really frustrating considering how much this hotel costs a night. Other than that the hotel could be a tad more centrally located and offer a few “rainy day” type of activities but other than that, this hotel absolutely wonderful and I would 100% come back here again. The staff is friendly and helpful, their pool and hot tub were really nice, I loved their spa, and when it’s good weather there’s a lot to do!

Lobby is great and so is the location. The room themselves were kind of boring when u r paying for a 4 star hotel. Also our room was extremely far from the elevator on the 5th floor... which is rewlly tough for a fam with youbg kids. Other than that All the staff was nice.

Excellent hotel with spacious rooms with lots of light. The lobby ambience is top notch. We went on a busy weekend, so it was crowded, but no complaints. The hotel is close to local attractions and a one minute walk to fisherman’s wharf. There is a restaurant and a bakery inside the hotel which is very convenient. There is a Starbucks right outside if it matters to you. Would visit again. Loved it!

Very noisy place to sleep, there are always loud late night parties going on. For what you pay for, parking and breakfast is not included. We got bitten by bugs in the bed.
