We visited Le Coucou for our anniversary, and the atmosphere was absolutely beautiful. The romantic interior, elegant decor, and attentive staff made it feel like a special occasion. They also surprised us with a complimentary dessert that had “Happy Anniversary” written on it, which was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the Michelin-star expectations. We chose the two-course menu and added the steak tartare with caviar, but it had a slightly fishy smell and the flavor wasn’t quite right. We also had the lobster, yellowfin tuna, and steak—everything was good, but nothing was particularly memorable or worth the premium price. If you visit, I’d recommend sticking to the standard menu and skipping the expensive add-ons, as they didn’t feel worth the extra $30–$70. Overall, it’s a great spot for the ambiance and service, but I expected much more from the food.

I am a French Canadian girl from Québec Excuse me it’s not a Michelin star restaurant I would prefer to eat at Mac Donald their menu is not what they say Don’t waste your money there , they are trying to be fancy food restaurant , well it is a cafeteria food

Ate at Le Coucou a couple of nights ago. Service was outstanding, James was our main waitperson and his service was impeccable. The atmosphere is also very elegant, and the noise level was not too bad, especially compared to some other NY restaurants we have eaten in recently. However, the food was nothing special. Have had better meals elsewhere at similar or lower prices.

Service was great. Vibe was good. A lot of couples out on dates. Food: asparagus overpriced for what it is. Morel mushrooms were good. Dover sole had too much butter. Almost fried in butter and smelled like ghee. Rather disappointing.

Okay, let's be clear! This is my 5th visit to Le Coucou! Up until now, everything was fine despite a few minor imperfections, but tonight we had the "mustache gang" in action! A bunch of clowns serving up an arrogant but, above all, efficient service, finishing off drinks behind the bar! I suggest the owner do a quick check of his wine cellar inventory because, in my opinion, it's not up to scratch! Only the food is redeeming. The service, however, is mediocre; the waiters are haughty and untrained, and we witnessed a rather bizarre spectacle at the end of our meal. (When the waiters aren't finishing bottles amongst themselves, they're refilling and mixing half-finished bottles. And the bill is thrown at you before you even ask for it. This doesn't work either, and it becomes laughable, because cards don't work, not even those with no spending limit, and they have the nerve to take back your tip! Unbelievable! As for us, Le Coucou will never sing again!

Without a doubt, this is my favourite restaurant in NYC. What a wonderful experience from start to finish. This was the first time we’ve dined at a restaurant in NYC where we didn’t feel rushed. We were able to enjoy our conversation without constant interruptions, repeated check-ins, or any pressure to finish quickly. Every course was served at the perfect pace, and the staff never hurried to clear the table while we were still enjoying our meal. Having spent time dining in France, this is exactly the kind of experience I always associate with great French restaurants—unhurried, relaxed, and centred around enjoying both the food and the company. It’s something I’ve been hoping to find in NYC, and this is the first restaurant that truly delivered that feeling. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the service was exceptional. I’m so happy I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday because everything was absolutely perfect. A special thank you to Angelo, who was incredibly kind, warm, and attentive. He made us feel truly welcome, and his hospitality made an already wonderful evening even more memorable.

I had a very disappointing experience at Le Coucou. We visited for lunch and ordered the A Very Coucou Lunch to celebrate my birthday, but it turned out to be one of the most underwhelming dining experiences I've had. I should have listened to another reviewer who gave this same lunch menu one star—their comments turned out to be surprisingly accurate. While the raw ingredients seemed fresh, several dishes were served at temperatures that didn't allow their quality to shine. The duck was disappointingly tough, and the sauce did little to elevate it. What disappointed me most was how ordinary everything felt. There was nothing memorable or distinctive about the menu, despite the restaurant's reputation. Ironically, the only thing I still remember is one of the cocktails. To make matters worse, this lunch was meant to celebrate my birthday. I had noted it in the reservation, and the staff even wished me a happy birthday when we arrived. However, that was the only acknowledgment. There wasn't even a small candle or any thoughtful gesture. I understand that's not something every restaurant is obligated to provide, but for a place known for its hospitality and attention to detail, it was disappointing. It's rare to leave a restaurant feeling that the kitchen didn't fully understand its own menu, but that's honestly how this meal felt. Some dishes lacked seasoning, others were over-seasoned, and there was little sense of balance or refinement throughout.
