Phoenix Pride is one of the largest LGBTQ+ events in the American Southwest — an annual festival held in April at Steele Indian School Park that draws approximately 100,000 attendees over its two-day run. The April timing is crucial: Phoenix's spring window of comfortable outdoor temperatures makes the festival possible in a way that a summer event never could be. Steele Indian School Park provides a large, well-equipped outdoor venue in the heart of the city's Midtown corridor, accessible by light rail and close to the Central Avenue gay bar concentration. The festival includes multiple performance stages with local and national acts, a large community expo, food and drink vendors, and the full range of community organisation representation that makes a major Pride event the most comprehensive cross-section of LGBTQ+ life in a given city. Phoenix Pride draws from across the broader Arizona region — Tucson, Flagstaff, Sedona, and the rural areas of the state where LGBTQ+ people may have limited local community infrastructure. The festival is run by Arizona Pride, Inc., which has been producing the event for decades.
