The Castro Theatre

It has recently been renovated and accommodate live music, stand-up comedy, film festivals, and anniversary screenings...The refreshment stands offer classic movie snacks alongside beer, wine, and cocktails etc..

Saw Lucy Dacus at the new Castro last night. Stood in the general admission downstairs area. . I was not fully impressed It did look beautiful, they clearly spent a lot of money and there were some nice bars and seating areas outside the hall, but the general admission setup was strange. I think to accommodate moving tiered movie seats in and out. It was a series of flat almost patio type spaces tiering down toward the stage. Problem with that is that unless you were in the front row of that tier it was hard to see the stage since it was down below you. This wouldn't have been a problem if like at the Great American Music Hall or the independent or other places you were looking up at the stage or at other venues like the Masonic where the tier down was gradual. Instead, there was a wall of people ahead of me at each flat level. Would be a bad place to be short. Also, my favorite standing spots along the walls were not available since those were movie theater type exit aisles that needed to be kept clear. I didn’t have a chance to poke around that much since it was sold out, and Lucy’s fans had filled the place. I didn’t want to piss them off by moving in front of them. Also, the sound wasn't so good. No baffling I could see probably because the place has the beautiful historic ceiling and wall murals. But I am glad it got fixed up

Went to a concert and was impressed with the venue. Historic feel to it. Love the ceiling❤️
