It's definitely not recommended. I had already booked the room, but on the day of check-in, the host told me they didn't have a room. I was even more embarrassed because they themselves had paid for it, which I didn't pay for. They were perfectly aware of it and had tricked me (said: "How could you also stay at the next hotel if you were going to stay there?"). I wouldn't recommend it. When I arrived at the hotel, they gave me a ridiculous excuse, saying, "You have a reservation, but you haven't paid, so we don't have a room." Then they offered to take me to another hotel for €15/day and demanded payment for the transfer as well. I explained that the cancellation was due to the hotel's or booking.com's fault and that they should handle the cancellation themselves, but they said that wasn't possible.
