Népliget (People's Park)

Népliget, the city's biggest public park, is Budapest's best-known outdoor gay cruising area and has been used as a meeting spot for decades. Activity concentrates in the wooded sections and around the older ruins away from the main paths, and is busiest in the warmer months, both by day and after dark. It is easy to reach by metro line M3 (Népliget stop) or tram 1. As with any public cruising ground, discretion is essential: use well-lit routes at night, be aware that police patrols and occasional checks occur, and remember that Hungary's national climate toward LGBTQ+ visibility has grown more hostile even though same-sex activity is legal. Meet, stay aware of your surroundings, and keep to the tolerated, long-standing spots rather than seeking out isolated areas.
