Skál!

One of our two dinners in Reykjavik and our favorite. Excellent patient, friendly and informative service, delicious food and a really nice atmosphere. Thought the restaurant would be larger but it was a really nice intimate setting. If we're back in Iceland we will be back here.

They are not able to serve water in 20 mins where hardly half of the restaurant is full. Food maybe good, but doesn't mean much without good hospitality.

I seldom give 5 stars but Skál deserved it. I had the tasting menu and every dish blows my mind in terms of taste, texture and presentation. Definitely worth a TRY!!!

Wow! What an incredibly intimate and delicious experience this was. I was visiting Iceland for a week and this was an instant highlight. Cocktails are made to order, Food prepared fresh -pumping out hot from a gorgeously tiled window area thats large enough to see the chef's working hard to prepare it. Just GO! You wont regret it.

Go and get the tasting menu! Everything was delicious and at a good price point.

Skal was excellent, service was friendly, prompt, and the food was very good. These folks are doing dishes that stand up against international spots in much bigger cities and they do it with no pretention at all. Would return.

We were excited to try this place because of all the good reviews. They open at 5 pm, so we dropped by at 5:30pm hoping they could seat us. We didn't have a reservation, and we would be happy to make one of they couldn't seat us. The restaurant was about half full and when we told the hostess that we didn't have a reservation, she scolded us and reluctantly sat us at a nearby table. We ordered the lamb and the fish. Both were expertly prepared with wonderful flavors. Truly delicious. That said, the portions were quite small, especially for the lamb. They were so small in fact that we ended up having to go somewhere else to eat after our dinner. And we're not big eaters! It's also rough to have a special occasion dinner and feel you overpaid considerably and not even order any cocktails or wine. We think it's awesome that they started in a mattholl. We love matholls! But unfortunately, wouldn't recommend Skál! unless you have money to burn and eat 6 meals a day like a Hobbit.

We got the tasting menu for our table of 8 but not the wine tasting, which clearly disappointed them. The food itself was fairly good but not outstanding. Especially disappointing was that I had informed them that that this was a birthday dinner and who the birthday girl was, but when dessert came there was no happy birthday said or a candle. When I asked if they could provide a candle, the hostess became irritated and replied disparagingly. They brought a small dessert with candle in the end, but it was begrudgingly done and with a charge. This is my first time to this restaurant but second time visiting Iceland and I would never return here.

The food was decent but not great. I had the lamb and the portion was tiny but flavorful at least The bigger problem was the service. The person running the front of house was one of the rudest people we met during our week in Iceland. Never again.
