Pembroke Beach

Pembroke is the rocky shoreline north of St. Julian's, below the old Madliena/Pembroke coast, and is the beach most associated with Malta's gay and naturist crowd. There is no sand here - bathers use the flat limestone shelves and swim off the rocks in clear, deep water - which keeps it quieter than the island's family beaches. It has long been the main informally gay-frequented and nudist-tolerated stretch near the capital area, documented across Maltese gay guides. Discretion is the norm; nudity is technically not permitted on the island but is quietly tolerated at these isolated rocks. Bring water, shade and swim shoes as there are no facilities. It is a short taxi ride or walk from Paceville, making it the closest gay beach spot to the St. Julian's nightlife.
