Alan Turing Mavi Plaketi (Warrington Crescent)

This English Heritage blue plaque is at 2 Warrington Crescent in Maida Vale, now the Colonnade Hotel, and marks where Alan Turing was born on 23 June 1912. Turing wrote the founding work of computer science in 1936. During the Second World War, his codebreaking work at Bletchley Park on the German Enigma traffic made a major contribution to the Allied war effort. In 1952 he was convicted of gross indecency for a relationship with a man, and he accepted hormone treatment instead of prison. He died of cyanide poisoning in 1954, aged 41. He received a royal pardon in 2013, and the 2017 "Turing's Law" extended pardons to other men convicted under the same laws. Warwick Avenue Tube station is a few minutes' walk away.
