Travelodge London Kew Bridge

Superb experience

One of the worst places I have ever stayed in my life. Arrive at the hotel only to have to wait at least 10 minutes to see anyone on reception. We had walked quite a while to get to the hotel as we didn't realise it was quite as far away so our feet were a bit sore so we just wanted to eat and chill out. We paid for the room and went and dumped our stuff in the room so we could head to the restaurant. Walked into the restaurant where we were the only ones. Literally the only ones, couldnt even see any staff. Sat down, and picked what we wanted to eat and drink, went up to the "bar" to order and the "waitress" was sitting through in the kitchen on her phone and wasn't even going to acknowledge there was anyone there. Finally she came through only to not understand a word I was saying. Although she spoke very good English. After a lot of pointing and trying to communicate somehow. We got nothing that we ordered so had to settle for what we got. Anyway I was past caring as we were very hungry so sat back down to an already set table, where I couldn't find a clean bit of cutlery. Even the paper napkins had an orange edge. This should have been the warning signs but what was to come I was not prepared for. The food arrived, which was on the very edge of being uneditable. I ordered a chicken tikka and my colleague ordered a chicken burger and chips with cheese and bacon. The chips were stuck to the plate with the cheese which looked like it had been microwaved. They were uneditable. I ate a bit of the curry only to get 2 mouthfuls in and find a long hair. Which just totally put me off. So I left the rest and the roll/mini nan I couldn't touch due to how solid it was from being in the micro. So we had finished our "meal" and were sitting talking when a mouse came running out the kitchen and straight across the restaurant floor. The two of us almost died. We couldn't believe it was real. So we decided we needed to go. We decided we would go to the room and try chill out and watch some TV. I turned my TV on only to be greeted with an error message saying I need to connect to the internet for the Freeview. I called reception on the number on the key card. She asked me to turn it off at the back and back on. I tried this getting a face full of dust and as I was doing so she hung up on me. I tried to call her back and she wouldn't answer, so I decided to go down as by this point I had enough of this dreadful place! When I got down to reception I couldn't get a hold of anyone. I was shouting through the back etc but nothing so I decided to call while standing there and she suddenly appeared. Mysteriously. As if by magic! Obviously trying to ignore me on the phone. I asked about the TV and was told she could get a maintenance man to come out but would be 4 hours. By this point it was 8 o'clock and having to be back up at 6.30 the next day for work again I declined but explained about the previous events and she said oh sorry and asked my room number and told me a manager would call me. (Which I am still waiting on) anyway went to try sleep before anything else could go wrong and woke up the next day only to test positive for COVID! What an absolute awful place. My work use an external booking site who recommend this place so I will be having a word with them to remove this hotel from the list. I have tried a to contact the hotel directly regarding this before writing this but have been unsuccessful as they obviously don't want to take any responsibility for their actions.

What makes this a great Travelodge is the staff. I couldn't check in until 0130 in the morning and thought this might have been a problem, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The lady on reception was so helpful and kind. I would definitely recommend this Travelodge.

Great from us with a small caveat: we wanted two separate beds and booked a twin room but got king size and a children's bed. We did not complain and it kind of did the job before t not ideal. Otherwise no smells, reasonably clean, very quiet and with convenient parking. After reading the reviews I feared a bad experience but it was actually quite good.

Lifts are all key-card operated. Except that they are not, the scanners do nothing so anyone can access any part of the hotel by just walking off the street. Rooms were clean and comfy, although a little tired. Breakfast was the worst hotel food I have ever had, and the bar made me sad just looking at it. Having a drink there would have been terminal.

Excellent location, overlooking the Thames, excellent public transport , trains, & buses - all very frequent. Just 10 mins to Kew Gardens & excellent restaurants in Kew village. Whilst not pretending to be a 5 star hotel, rooms are clean, large beds, adequate shower rooms, towels, tea, coffee, kettle, TV - no hairdryers. Windows open, overlooking adjacent gardens. Reasonably quiet for a centrally located hotel. All you can eat, Breakfast is good value, well cooked, decent ingredients - fruit juices, machine made wide range of coffees, tea bags, cooked ingredients, mix of cereals, brown & white toast, selection of preserves, small bakery selection. Overall, excellent location, helpful, friendly staff, good value breakfast & accommodation. We'll definately stay again when visiting Kew.
