The Company Bar is a men-only basement bar on Richmond Street, on the edge of Manchester's Gay Village. It's small and dark, and it draws mostly a leather, bear and muscle crowd, with a long happy hour. It's a different scene from the big Canal Street bars. It opens in the evening Tuesday to Sunday and stays open until 3am, or 6am on Fridays and Saturdays, when most people arrive after midnight. It's closed on Mondays. Dress codes are sometimes enforced on fetish nights, so check the website before going.

As an queer individual I love being prejudiced against. Told I'm not welcome at a place I thought I should be welcome at. That's irony. I'm at one of the lowest points in my life and walked in just wanting somewhere to exist and got thrown out because they "don't feel safe" serving me. Based on nothing.

Just left the place and honestly, I don’t even know what to say. About 20 minutes in, a customer’s dog pooped right in the middle of the bar, leaving a horrible smell. The staff cleaned it up immediately, but the mix of cleaning products—clearly not properly diluted—made the odor even worse. I ended up rushing out…
