Etkinlik Hakkında

Learn to weave a basket with kudzu and wisteria, invasive species that grow quickly and plentifully throughout the Southeast, with instructor Angela Eastman of Flag Mountain Studio. The mature vines of both plants can be harvested and processed into bark strips and woody material that form the structure for strong and beautiful baskets. In learning traditional wicker weaving techniques to work with this plentiful material, you’ll connect to a long human lineage of working with natural materials to create useful vessels. You can expect to leave with a small basket or platter woven from kudzu and wisteria.
Throughout the day together, as you build creative community and ecological awareness, Angela will invite a new way to understand “weeds” in the environment where they live, shifting perspectives to view these plants as creative collaborators and resourceful cohabiters.
