We wanted to walk along the beach and Alamitos Beach has a nice, long "board walk" which is really two concrete paths. It's nice because one of the paths is specific to bikes and other things with wheels leaving the other path for pedestrians. I was happy to see that there were a couple bathrooms along the way. However, they were ALL locked up. There are a lot of homeless living on and along the beach. The water is dirty and doesn't get a lot of new water to refresh it because of the jetty protecting the bay.
Our trip to Long Beach took us here, where we ended up staying for most of the day. The water was still pretty cold, but we had fun and had plenty of room to move around most of the day. We had heard that this was one of the cleanest beaches around, so was surprised to still find garbage and stuff strewn about, I don't understand why people leave that stuff behind. It's also nice to have showers close by to get the sand washed off and lots of shops and food close by so you don't have to move your vehicle.
- Semi long very wide Sand Beach … No Pacific Ocean Waves due existing in croissant shape Bay and because there are look like Islands front ... Semi cold Water so recommended to go in Summer heart only … I went in Fri. afternoon, It's Empty and actually no public Services … (Port /Yacht Harbor) is attached to the Beach and with a coastal Walking path along it containing good pictures & some Entertainment & Aquarium.. - It is not in LA! It’s a Different City in CA that has its own Tax and public Transportation with a Red color … You can go from LA to LONG that faraway about 30 km S. by “Blue Line” Tram with a Ticket = $1.75 /7 /25 = 1 Ride /1-D use /7-D use. Or/ using black*orange color LA Public Bus # 60 from the D.T. with a Free Ticket in this Nowadays, Corona days, after mid night. Or/ until “Artasia terminal” during the day then change to (Red) Public Bus # 61 (with 1.25$ Ticket) or continue with attached (Blue Line) Tram St.
Wonderful beach to run, walk, jog, and bike. The public bathrooms are well maintained. There are volleyball courts. If you are lucky, your get to witness a beautiful sunset like today.
The beach was really big and is great for a beach day out, though the waters were a little chilly. There is also lots of free parking on the surrounding streets.
The thing I likes about this beach the most was the fact that you could drive right up to the beach and walk on. The beach itself and the facilities are not very clean but they are convenient.
Many jogging, rollerblading, bicycle riding people. Good to sweat if you stay long around here. It seems volleyball court or parking lot at the beach side of villa is the starting point for rollerbladers. There is another bike rental shop there too. (One was at Shoreline Aq. park). Various ride are available at reasonable price range.
The peninsula begins at 54th Place and is a unique residential neighborhood along Ocean Boulevard that ends at the Alamitos Bay inlet. A favorite spot for local beach-goers, the bay side of the Peninsula looks across to Naples Island. This stretch of beach is a favorite spot for families and offers a paved walking path between the home fronts and the beach. Sabots, sailboats, sculling teams and stand-up paddle-boarders are very active in the bay. Long Beach Parks and Recreation offer sailing classes during the summer at the Leeway Sailing Center. Visitors to Long Beach enjoy cruising the Naples Island canals on a Gondola Tour, launching from the dock at the start of the Peninsula. The homes along the Pacific side of the Peninsula have a Nantucket feel with a boardwalk between the home fronts and the sand. Oceanfront living here offers spectacular views of the sunset, Catalina Island and downtown Long Beach. Iconic to Long Beach residents, the Liquor store on 62nd is where beach-goers and Junior Life Guards pop in for an ice-cream treat or salty snack. Resident homeowners can access the docks at the end of 62nd Place. Sailors and boat owners can join the ABYC located at the end of the Peninsula. The beach side of the peninsula occasionally offers small waves to play in and less of a crowd on hot days. Locals enjoy walking or jogging this beach.
