The Palmer House Resort, an Ascend Collection Hotel

What can you say about a stay that offers tranquility, customer service, and closeness to amenities but that the stay was wonderful. From the general manager Travis to the staff cleaning the rooms all were gracious and accommodating. Thank you for a great stay.

Check-in was easy. Room was large. You can sit on the chairs on the porch outside your unit. There are tables, chairs and fire pit in the outdoor common area . I needed to do computer work and had to do it in the outside common area, since there wasn't a desk or table in the room. Minor inconvenience. The fire pit was lit and we met a few new people. There are sports equipment to borrow in the office. We found a trail and a pond. We spent a lot of time outside. Bed was comfortable. Shower water was hot. There are many restaurants in the area. Breakfast in the lobby was reasonable with eggs, sausage, oatmeal, coffee and juices. Checkout was easy.

Upon arrival my room was not ready. Was told that 2 housekeepers had walked out 2 days earlier. Upon finally getting into my room after a 40 minute wait I found ants on kitchen counter and fridge door would not close. I reported this to Michael who was the only saving grace of this experience. Was moved to another room which had no soap, no towels. Also 1/2 of an ice cream cup and 1/2 of a sub sandwich left in fridge. In the bathroom a light blanket was tacked up on part of the window instead of a window blind. Stained furniture. And a knob fell off a cabinet when I opened the drawer. I went to the pool. The paint is all peeling. And as for breakfast! There was only one juice selection. No muffins, no fruit, no cereal, no yogurt, no donuts. No toast or jam. And take the restaurant off your website because you don't have one! And the people above me walk very loudly and it is now after 10pm and they are still making noise. 2 nights in a row of that! This was my 4th and will be my final stay here. Definitely not a resort! Never again. Would like to know what your company does for dissatisfied guests except to issue standard apologies and promises to make things better in the future. Adjustments were made in my bill but the issues that occurred should never have happened in the first place.

I liked the outdoor pool but it was a bit out dated and our fan didn’t work and when we tried to use the heat it smelled really bad but overall it was not that bad they had a Whirlpool but it was dirty a frog in it with no water witch is probity a safety hazard plus a really small tv but nice bathrooms

Such a great view of the mountain and good amenities, there’s an indoor and outdoor pool , hot tub, and tennis court. The staff is so attentive and accommodating. My family was staying all together and wanted to eat in the common room, Michael was so nice and even put on some music for us. The young woman at the front desk counter was very sweet also.

- room did not match any of the pictures shown on booking.com not even remotely - tub and bathroom amenities did not drain - BLOOD STAINS on our pillows and bedding - BLOOD stains on walls - pool was directly below our room with no mention of this, pool was open 24/7 with people yelling screaming below us all hours. - when trying to reach the front desk first hung up on and then no answer to our multiple calls making it unable for us to get new bedding and address complaints also no one around to speak to - jacuzzi was filthy and unsanitary - tvs had half of the screen cut off -couch was broken unable to use as shown in pictures. - room looked like it hadn’t even been cleaned - unable to use deck and the door to it was impossible to open FIRE HAZARD Final problem was I’ve addressed these problems have documentation of everything have stressed the fact that we want compensation and both booking.com and the property believe that this is a $49 fix! Did not even reach out to hear my side of the story just issued a small refund in hopes to just wash it under the bridge! Maybe after actually hearing my story you will realize THIS PLACE WAS UNSANITARY AND UNSAFE. We reached out for MONTHS about the issue and spoke with various employees at the front desk whose response was “The manager is rarely here or responsive” “They aren’t surprised by our issue” and “They don’t think highly of the hotel or owner either” which speaks volumes in itself. TERRIBLE customer service. I finally spoke with the manager 3 months later who did not seem to think any of our issues were a big enough problem for a refund or even a sorry for what happened. “Sorry for the delay we will not be issuing you a refund” My goal in writing this is to warn others! DO NOT STAY HERE. (Paid $432 FOR ONE NIGHT and only could refund $50)

I was put in a room beside the office, floor was dirty. was cereal on the ground, not only that, I fell asleep and my room phone rang for for some Reason woke me up., the next thing you know somebody has their headlights in my window parked right in front in my parking spot?I go out and their head is hanging.Looks like they're nodding out on Drugs or something, very suspicious activity.I talked to the person office , they said they would speak to whoever it was they went , and they told me , oh , there's nothing to worry about his harmless, that was not the point , made a move of his car just a few feet over by the dumpsters, something strangers going on.That's all I know, is definitely a sketchy situation regardless not feel comfortable staying

I booked my room through Booking.com and was charged the amount quoted the day of booking. When checking in they asked for my credit card for incidentals and then after my stay the Palmer House charged my credit card for the full stay as well. I've called and repeatedly had the desk staff tell me that they can see I was double charged and that the manager would fix it but after 6 weeks and many calls the charge has not been reversed and the manager has never called me back and refuses to get on the phone. I am now in the process of taking them to Vermont Small Claims Court in Bennington County. Terrible experience.

My room had a broken window (on a day it was 20 degrees out), the heat was broken, it reeked of marijuana, and the front desk person had no idea what they were doing. I complained to the front desk about these issues and the Manager, Travis, agreed to cancel my reservation and provide a refund. Two weeks later and after hours of calls with Booking.com, I have not received a refund. Booking.com assured me all they need in order to issue the refund is an email from the manager confirming the cancellation. Travis assured me numerous times he would provide this email confirmation, but to this date has never sent it and has stopped answering my calls. This is unprofessional behavior and speaks to the overall terrible condition of the property. I would give negative stars if I could. DO NOT STAY HERE. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO ASPEN AT MANCHESTER.

Wonderful place in the middle of a beautiful place. Only negative was a heat issue, couldn't go below 72. The solution was using the air conditioner which grated at my eco-friendly side but worked . Would go back in a heartbeat.

This is an outdated motel, not a resort by any stretch of the imagination. I’m confident that any Best Western or Holiday Inn would’ve provided a better experience at a lower price point. The photos are extremely misleading, leading one to believe they’re booking an updated, cute, modern hotel room. This is far from the truth. The rooms had very minimal “updates”, and for the most part everything in the room was original - I’m guessing from the 80’s when it was built, including original bathroom finishings. The cleanliness of the room was questionable, there were crumbs everywhere and some mysterious items on the floor. Worst of all is the room REEKED of cigarettes. It was so strong that we smelled it in our sleep. We also questioned the safety and security of the room due to a few strange guests we were greeted by upon arrival. The positive was that because it was so bad, we were highly motivated to get up and start our day early to vacate the property. Luckily our stay was just one night, otherwise I would have booked alternate accommodations for our second night. I absolutely would not recommend staying here.

The Palmer House Resort is a cute little motel style resort in the heart of Manchester, VT. The rooms could use some updating: the couch was worn in spots and the mattress dipped severely in the middle. But otherwise the room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was one of the cleanest I’ve seen in any hotel in a long time. The biggest issue I had was that the Internet didn’t work in my room - which was a problem as I was in town for work. The front desk clerk, Michael, couldn’t find the problem so invited me to work from the lobby. Not ideal, but it was comfortable and he offered me drinks and snacks on the house as an apology, which was lovely. I hope to stay here again, as long as the Internet issue is resolved. Highly recommend!

We only stayed one night as we passed through town. Lot's of pros.....Staff was very friendly. This is an older motel with some updates. Our room was spacious and clean, the king bed was comfy. We used the indoor pool and hot tub which was nice. The location is amazing, Manchester is a cozy Vermont town with cute stores, nice restaurants, and a river walk. Cons: the fitness equipment is very old and not well maintained, potentially a safety hazard. I would stay here again and maybe do laps in the pool for exercise or run outside!
