The Local - St. Augustine

Only positive I have is how easy the check in was. Here’s my negative, that made us book another hotel: The room had hair all over the bed, in the bed, on the pillows, sink, floor, counters. The dust on the floor and lamps was gross. There were tags from previous guests on the floor. The microwave had food bits inside of it. They tried to charge my card for $167 for a night we didn’t spend and when I explained we paid for 2 nights and asked why are we getting charged for another? He responded with well it says to charge you again in the system but you blocked the charged, I keep trying to put it through so can you unblock i?. I responded no since we only need 2 nights and I didn't understand why we needed a 3rd. He said he would talk to the manager. At that point we left and booked the with another hotel. And in all honestly $167 a night for a musty and dirty hotel room along with it being on the side of the road literally is not worth it.

Deceptive pricing

Amazing little find! Found out about this gem online with my girlfriend while we were deciding where to go for a nice getaway. Rooms where perfect for what we needed and the pool was private and a key highlight of our trip!! The roof top balcony was also very cool as well! very easy to uber to downtown as well! Only con i would say was the lack of garbage cans to throw away trash as we stayed for almost a week. Other than that we enjoyed our stay and will be back the next time we visit! we felt at home at the Local!

Dirty room with hair everywhere even in the bed, no staff and no hot water

Quick one-night stay. Check in process went ok, although I could defin understand how it might trouble the less "technically oriented". Location is perfect...walked to the Amp in about 20 mins. Room was small but comfortable enough...as the AC worked just fine. Only two minor complaints; one, the floor seemed "sticky"...probably not rinsed with the cleanest of mops. And two, the toilet seat hinge was broken on one of the two sides. Not horrible but irritating enough. Would (and will be for Goose) stay here again!

Me and my boyfriend were in St. Augustine and tried to stay here and there was NO ONE WORKING HERE. Let me just say as a woman whose sister worked in a hotel- I feel I need to publicly say this is a real danger to women. My sister told me sometimes unruly and/or drunk guests will be on premises, and she would have to call the police on them. Now, as a woman, do you want a strange/drunk man around the premises with no staff to attend to or see this situation, or see and attend to signs leading up to this situation? Does this sound like a relaxing vacation situation to you? Please don't risk your life by staying at a hotel with no attendant there. Also, how the hell would you get towels and such? They didn't even have a person at a desk there to answer questions about rooms so they could make money. I'm sorry but the whole reason to stay at a hotel is for basic amenities like a person to get you towels, a person to assist you with staying there. These people just don't want to pay employees. I am 39, I'm no grandma. I don't like it when businesses are impersonal and inattentive. I won't give my money to businesses who do the bare minimum yet charge as if it's luxury. Also Airbnb is unethical as hell and has left a bad taste in my mouth, and this place's business model too closely resembles Airbnb for me to want to support them. HIRE EMPLOYEES AT A LIVING WAGE.

Great rooms. Very small boutique style. Great central location! Check in was easy and unattended via text and lockbox!

I’m not sure if this hotel is what the future looks like for the hospitality industry, but I for one don’t like it! There is no lobby where you check in and are greeted and given your keys or key cards, but you can get coffee there. You don’t have anyone take your used towels away and leave you fresh, but there is a notice on the desk to tip your housekeeper 🤷🏻‍♀️even though you don’t see one. There was a light outside our room that lit up the whole room, they must have never heard of dark out shades. I found it very creepy that know one was there. Will not be staying here again!

I was actually excited to stay here for an event this upcoming weekend but am unable to due to a personal event. I booked through booking.com and was given the option to request free cancellation which the hotel honored. I am very grateful that they did that even though they did not have to so for that reason I’d like to rate them. Thank you so much!

My experience at The Local was far below expectations. The service is inconvenient and impersonal with no real staff on site, so when you need help you are left texting or waiting for someone to maybe respond. It does not feel welcoming or attentive in any way. The rooms themselves were also disappointing. The beds are uncomfortable and the walls are paper thin, so you hear everything happening around you. It is hard to rest when you can hear conversations and movement from neighboring rooms. The air conditioning situation makes things worse. There is no central AC, so each room has its own unit. Some seem old while others appear more updated, which leads to inconsistent temperature control. The room was either too cold near the unit or too warm elsewhere, and it never felt comfortable or balanced. The lighting in the room is poor and feels cold and uninviting. The only real positive was the cleaning crew, who clearly work hard to keep the space tidy. Unfortunately, cleanliness alone does not make up for uncomfortable rooms and unresponsive service. There are much better options nearby in St. Augustine with staff who will actually address your needs and provide a more comfortable stay. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Not a great stay at this hotel. Floors were sticky, showers were very cold. Bed had stains on the sheets. Very noisy, walls were really thin. Would pick something else if you’re going to be spending any time in the room.
