Omg the little places made Daylesford tbh but a few stores i went to like bazzar brick lane wrecked the atmosphere of the town VERY RUDE service while looking threw the store .... so unhappy I would not return
Only a short walk out of town the lake is stunning to just visit or walk the loop around the lake and enjoy the sites. Restaurant and cafe also there to visit
Attended the BOREALIS on the Lake Light show from a few years ago. The setting was perfect which gave the lights a perfect backdrop.
My wife and I walked across the 2.8 km circuit around the lake, three times on 3 consecutive days during our holiday in Daylesford. We stayed in a holiday cottage near this lake, within walking distance. We have been here a few times over the years and always walk the full circuit each time. It is very scenic and serene. In the morning, during Winter, there is often a fine mist that hovers above the water in the lake, that reduced visibility.
Head opposite the Lakehouse side of the lake, across bridge and a little parking available. Easy to pick a trail and go for a walk but it is muddy so be sure to take appropriate hiking boots.
Located within walking distance of the town centre, Lake Daylesford is a man-made lake constructed in the 1930s. When we arrived early in the morning, a gentle mist was rising from the water, creating a tranquil and atmospheric scene. The lake features the scenic 'Peace Mile' walking track, which loops around nearly 3 kilometres of picturesque shoreline. There's no shortage of things to do here — from swimming and fishing to birdwatching. You’ll also find a playground, BBQ facilities, tables and chairs, and paddleboats (though they seem to have been unused for a while). Food, coffee, and other amenities are available onsite, making it a convenient and relaxing spot. If you’re in town, it’s definitely worth a visit.
What a beautiful lake which is well used. There is a restaurant there, plus a little shop for snacks, drinks and ice cream. Our only problem was, we could not use the toilet there. The strong smell put us off.
A beautiful spot. A must see. You wouldn’t believe it’s there just inside the town. Everything was so green. Plenty to see.
The lake is quite beautiful and we very much enjoyed our walk around both paths. It's a lovely spot, clearly popular with locals and visitors alike. However, such a shame that the vegetation on the shores is overrun with invasive plants and weeds. There are large patches of blackberries and ivy, as well as holly and non-native trees spreading widely. Really hope the local shire does something to address this as this area should be full of native vegetation thriving on the lake's edge.
A lovely day trip from Melbourne. We loved the walk around the lake. There is a small park with swings which children will love. The walk was serene, easy even for children. You can taste some spring water that flows through.
Magnificent views of the lake, clean and cosy rooms, perfect size for 2, was really impressed by the service too❤️😊
A Misleading Name for a Dust Collector’s Paradise If you are looking for a hotel that truly honors its own name, The Balconies certainly delivers—provided your definition of a "balcony" is a dedicated, undisturbed sanctuary exclusively reserved for a thick, undisturbed layer of outdoor grime. My partner and I were genuinely thrilled to check into a room with such a prominent feature. Imagine our delight upon opening the door to the balcony and discovering that housekeeping had curated an authentic, prehistoric-level dust exhibit. Not a single square inch had seen a broom, a mop, or a human hand in what felt like decades. Naturally, the thought of sitting down to relax and enjoy the view crossed our minds—right before we realized that doing so would require a full hazmat suit and a pressure washer. It is truly inspiring when a hospitality business has the sheer audacity to brand itself entirely around its defining architectural feature, only to completely abandon it. To call this place "The Balconies" is less of a description and more of a cruel joke. I rarely feel compelled to leave reviews, but this establishment achieved the impossible by dragging me out of my comfort zone. Do yourself an immense favor: save your money, skip the dust allergy, and stay literally anywhere else. Avoid at all costs.
Excellent location plus awesome lake view. Very clean throughout and great balcony view
Beautiful apartment and great location with a gorgeous view over the lake. Pity we are only staying here for a couple of nights…Nice guys too! A perfect place to get away from Melbourne for a bit of fresh air! Highly recommended.
Amazing place, great location, has everything you could every what. Beds are so comfortable and luxurious.
Loved the view and size of room, very comfortable
Absolutely gorgeous view to wake up to in the morning. When I rang the host, they were so polite and friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend this place
We had a great stay at Balconies Lakeside! The bed was so comfortable & it was quiet, clean and had everything we need. Check in was contactless and smooth. They generously gave us an early check in. Gorgeous view on the lake, and a 5/10 minute walk to the Lakeside restaurant where we had dinner. Highly recommend !
Good little studio to stay for over night. Contact was good. Very clean. Clean linen, Door entrance bit hard to figure out. Recommend.
The studio apartment, at least, is only mediocre. The view is obstructed, the access system is odd, and the kitchenette is very minimalist. I expected more.
The host is very enthusiastic, if it were not for the limit of 5 stars, I would give unlimited stars.lol Nice room very big and excellent views!
Great place to stay
Wonderful place to stay. Everything you need is provided. Beautiful views over the lake. Will be back.
Great location and views of the lake. Very comfortable bed and furnishings. High level of cleanliness and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend
A wonderful getaway spot if you are looking for somewhere serene and peaceful during the winter time. Easy self check-in and nice, quaint views. Would highly recommend this stay in Daylesford!
The apartment was roomy, comfortable and well-appointed. However, there was a build up of dust throughout the apartment on surfaces, furniture and ornaments etc which was not what we would expect. The location overlooking Lake Daylesford has lovely views and wonderful easy walks around the lake. We would prefer accommodation with off street parking.
My husband and I had some confusion about the room we had rented but Rodrigo and Stuart were wonderful about getting us settled in. We have stayed at The Balconies before and look forward to returning soon!
Loved the place, loved the town, definitely come back again
