Gay bars in Karlsruhe: the honest 2026 version

The honest summary: Karlsruhe has one queer bar, Café PRINZs, and one community bar, at queerKAstle, which opens on Friday and Saturday evenings. There is no gay club and no weekly gay dance night. Some lists online add mainstream bars and techno clubs to pad out the count. We don't, and the section at the end explains which names those are.

Café PRINZs

Café PRINZs is at Zähringerstraße 15, near Fasanenplatz and a few minutes' walk east of the Marktplatz (tram stops Marktplatz or Kronenplatz). Its own website calls it "Karlsruhes einzige queere Bar", Karlsruhe's only queer bar, describes it as a safe space, and lists a set of monthly nights:

    • Pasta night: third Thursday
    • Bingo: second Friday
    • Bears meetup: fourth Thursday
    • Puppy meetup: first Saturday

On top of those come one-off events such as karaoke and drag nights. The crowd is mixed: gay men, lesbians, trans and non-binary people, students and regulars. PRINZs doesn't publish fixed opening hours on its website, so check there or on its socials before you go, especially early in the week. Google reviewers rate it 4.7 from about 400 reviews.

    The bar at queerKAstle

queerKAstle (Liebigstraße 10-12, Weststadt) is a volunteer-run queer community centre rather than a commercial bar. Its bar team opens on Fridays and Saturdays from 18:00 to 22:00. It's quieter than PRINZs and closes early, but it is where many of the city's queer groups meet. It also hosts the pub quiz, game nights and DragClash, the city's drag contest. Check queerkastle.de for that week's programme.

    Parties

Queer nights out in Karlsruhe are events rather than venues. The PRINZs dates, queerKAstle shows and the occasional party listed on the city's queer calendar, queerka.de, are the regular options. Our Karlsruhe events page collects them. Around CSD in early June (next: Saturday 5 June 2027) there are more parties than at any other time of year.

Not gay bars, whatever other lists say

These names come up in "gay Karlsruhe" searches. None of them has any independent sign of being a queer venue:

    • Topsy (Hirschstraße 30): a late-night bar and club, Thursday to Saturday.
    • C2 OST (Essenweinstraße): a techno club. Its door policy welcomes everyone, but it doesn't run gay nights.
    • Erdbeermund (Baumeisterstraße, Südstadt): a small techno bar.
    • Venus Bar, SINS, Hello Club, Nachtwerk, En Vogue, Rheingold: mainstream bars, clubs and a tabledance club.
    • "Nachtigall" and "Café Punkt": named in one gay travel site's text, but we found no trace that either exists.

    Practical tips

    • Getting around: trams run late at weekends. PRINZs and queerKAstle are about 20 minutes apart on foot or 10 by tram.
    • Drinking age: beer and wine from 16, spirits from 18.
    • Payment: small German bars often prefer cash, so carry some.
    • More bars: Mannheim, Stuttgart and Strasbourg each have bigger scenes and are under an hour away by train.
    • Sauna: the men-only Aquarium Sauna in Mühlburg is open every day except Tuesday.
