Про це місце Roma Pride Route — Piazza della Repubblica

Piazza della Repubblica, the large semicircular square near Termini station, is the traditional gathering point for Roma Pride. Rome's Pride is Italy's largest LGBTQ+ march, held each June, with crowds estimated in the hundreds of thousands. The Circolo di Cultura Omosessuale Mario Mieli has long been central to organising it. Rome hosted WorldPride in 2000, the Catholic Jubilee year. The event went ahead despite strong opposition from the Vatican and set the scale for the marches that followed. Outside Pride season the square is an ordinary traffic hub with the Fontana delle Naiadi at its centre. The route and end point change from year to year, so check romapride.it before the event.

The Piazza della Repubblica is beautiful at night and during the day. Highly recommend doing a bus tour at some point in your visit so that you can capture images and relax as you pass by several highlighted points of interest. There is no cost to see the fountain; however, if you do a bus tour, there is a slight fee but it is good all day. The Piazza isn't overly crowded; however, if viewing from the bus, you will want to be on top in the open air - which can be a hit/miss for crowds. This is great for people that want to see the points of interest in Rome.

Beautiful monumental expanse. The Romans still call it Piazza Esedra in reference to the large exedra of the Roman baths of Diocletian, with a curved perimeter traced by palaces with arcades, a work of the late nineteenth century. The Basilica of S. Maria degli Angeli, designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti and housed in a wing of the Roman baths, overlooks the square. At the center of the square is the beautiful Fountain of the Naiads.

Repubblica is my favourite piazza in Rome. It is central and magnificent at night in particular, the lighting is stunning as is the fountain!

A very monumental square. It used to be called Esedra Square. On the square overlooks the beautiful basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei martyrri, in the center the beautiful fountain of the Naiads. Then imposing twin buildings designed by Gaetano Koch

It is a spectacular square but we could not see the central fountain because it was in the works. You could see the four naiads with their symbol. It is very close to Termini station and on one side are the ancient thermal baths of Diocletian and Santa Maria de los Angeles, last work by Michelangelo in which you have to highlight the line of the ground meridian that served astronomical calculations

Currently (March 2025) it is under construction and the fountain partially covered, so it is worth the visit. In addition, traffic makes it especially uncomfortable.

Circular piazza with a fountain in the center designed in the 1880s which serves mostly as a busy traffic circle. You will undoubtedly pass through here if you arrive at Rome's main train station, Roma Termini. It makes for a nice welcome to the city especially at night when lit up but not a sight you need to go back and explore.

The Piazza della Repubblica was probably the first landmark in Rome we saw when we arrived in the city. Part of the reason wa sit was only a couple of blocks from our hotel and therefore an easy walk. The other reason was the eastern edge of it was the scheduled meeting point for our scheduled trip to Pompeii and my wife was insistent we check it out to determine exactly where we were supposed to be and how long it would take to get there. The Piazza is a large circular Piazza near the Roma Termini, the main railway station. It is the start point of one of the major streets in Rome, the Via Nazionale which runs westward almost to the Tiber River, The Piazza was originally called the Piazza dell’ Esedra named for the Baths of Diocletian one of the largest public baths of the ancient Roman Capital. The building that contained them still stands on the easter and southern edges of the Piazza and now houses the Museo Nazionale Romano, Terme di Diocleziano an Archeological Museum. Next to it and completing the major structures on the eastern side is the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and Martyrs designed and built in the 16th century. The opposite or western flank of the Piazza has two semi circular buildings built in the 19th Century separated by the Via Nazionale. The southern one contains the 5 Star Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel. In the centre of the Piazza is the Fontana delle Naiadi or Fountain of the Naiads construction of which ran from 1888 to 191 with the final addition of the four bronze statues of classical water nymphs. The fountains main jets are illuminated at night by LEDs. The Piazza’s central location and proximity to a major transit hub, Roma Termini makes it a very congested area. Numerous buses and cars always seem to be moving through it so caution should be taken in crossing. Aside from the nearby train station and its public transit connections the Piazza is serviced by its own Metro (Subway) station, Repubblica on the Orange Line.

Beautiful but constantly busy area of Rome near Termini and has its own metro stop. Beautiful are the surrounding buildings inside which there are also commercial activities. Overlooking this also the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri.

The square has had its current name since 1953. For a long time, this square near Termini station was called Exedra. This word in architecture means a semicircular recess, above which rises a semi-dome. This was the shape of the ancient Roman baths that once stood on the site where the church of Santa Maria dei Angeli e Martiri now stands. It is interesting that a similar shape of the square was reproduced on the opposite side of the square, having built semicircular palace-porticos designed by Gaetano Coch in 1887-1898. They actually create the ensemble of the square, reinforced by the organization of circular traffic of vehicles. In the center of the square, from 1870 to 1914, the Naiad fountain was erected for a long time and painfully, in the center of which there is a man hugging a dolphin, and on the sides there are 4 Naiad Nymphs in erotic poses. The church tried to remove the naiads, but it didn’t work. And then we got used to the ladies. And the increased traffic of cars does not contribute to a close examination of the delights of the naiads. They might shoot you down. In the evening the square is beautifully illuminated, but this time I came here in the morning, thanks to which I was able to get closer to the fountain...

Excellent hotel near the station. Attentive, professional, and very friendly staff. I had a small issue with my room, which was resolved promptly. The room was clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast with a wide variety of sweet and savory options (the maritozzi with cream were exceptional!).

I went to eat and watch the game. A cool guy served me. People from other, more Asian cultures don't understand what it means to sit down, have a beer, and watch a game.

I discovered this hotel on Dayuse, after my international flight dropped me in Rome extremely early. I was able to book a room for a quick jet lag recovery nap for a few hours, and it was incredible. Only steps from Roma Termini, the staff are helpful, and the rooms are extremely dark and quiet during the day. Strong air conditioning too!
