Hotel La Grotta

One star … our air condition did not work. It was 35 degrees. We went to the reception - the male there (Husband of the owner) was watching TV - did not really care. Called his wife. She went to the room. Said the AC worked yesterday - wait an hour and all will be good. But it was not. We did not sleep until 3 AM when it had cooled off outside. The heat was bad. No sleep was bad. But worst was that the owner really did not bother to do anything. I guess they have so many tourists coming to San Marino that a dissatisfied customer does not really count.

A beautiful place with professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient staff. It's a very romantic and intimate place, like stepping into a fairytale. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. It's located in the historic center of San Marino and is ideal for those who want to experience the nightlife! The breakfast is excellent for celiacs. Recommended...in fact, highly recommended.

Excellent hotel in the centre of San Marino old town. Lovely knowledgable staff, helpful with tourist information. The rooms were lush, with amazing balcony views over the hills. Only cons were a very slow elevator (which was a necessity after a day full of uphill walking), and a lack of gluten free options at the breakfast. Otherwise I would definitely recommend this hotel!

It's hard to judge, as it's supposed to be an ordinary hotel, but I certainly won't be going back there. We arrived after 6 PM with small children, after a rather long journey in temperatures of 35°C, to a room with a thermometer reading 29°C. There wasn't even a bottle of water in the room. Most hotels welcome you with a free bottle of water, but here there wasn't even a paid bottle. Furthermore, I didn't see a vending machine in the hotel where I could buy drinking water for the children. I believe that something as simple as a bottle of water, even if it's paid, should be standard, especially in the summer season when temperatures exceed 35°C. Arriving in the evening in an unfamiliar place, you have to go from one place to another asking where the nearest store is to buy water or a drink. The breakfast was surprisingly typical of chain hotels: low quality, low quantity, a standard set: one cold cut, one cheese, an egg, and toast. The coffee was very average, tasting like instant coffee made from powder. The cappuccino tasted like chocolate; I'm a fan of sweet coffee, but the cappuccino at this hotel was so sweet that without sugar, it was too sweet for me. The view from the window was of a wall of a neighboring building, about 150 cm away, but I'm not lowering my rating for that; I know what San Marino's architecture is like. The only advantage is the proximity to the parking lot and museums.
