During a walk through downtown Manchester we also passed Sackville Gardens. This is a rather small green area in Gay Village. In it you can see both the Alan Turing Memorial and the Beacon of Hope.
Sackville Gardens is one of those hidden gems in the city a calm green space tucked between the bustle of Manchester’s streets and the vibrancy of the Gay Village. It’s the perfect spot to take a breather with a coffee, catch up with friends, or reflect quietly. The Alan Turing memorial is both moving and powerful, and there’s often a sense of community in the park that makes it feel personal and grounded. The garden beds and trees offer a splash of nature in the middle of the urban landscape, and you’ll often see people walking dogs, sitting with a book, or having lunch on the grass. It’s not the largest park around, and sometimes it can be a bit busy during sunny weekends, but that’s part of the charm it brings people together.
This park is located next to the Manchester River, south of the gay village. The park is located in the city and is very small. The park is most famous for its statue of Aaron Turing, the father of computers. If you want to make a special trip to see this statue, then this park is a must-visit place. Other than that, the park itself has no special features and is just a green space for citizens to relax.
While not overly large in expanse, it nevertheless is a welcome green space. Good paths weave between the trees and through the grassways. A number of monuments are to be seen. Prime is the one to the great scientist Alan Turing that has him sitting on a bench holding an apple in one hand.
This is a pleasant garden between canal Street and the university. It is home to a statue of Alan Touring and also the beacon of hope.
Located in this beautiful park is the Beacon of Hope- a memorial to people living with HIV/ AIDS and those who have died from it. Also located here is the Turing Statue - a beautiful reminder of an amazing man. The park has a back drop of the Municipal College of Technology. There are paths and garden beds add a feeling of serenity.
Nearly always pop here when in the gay village and came here to see the acts and use the bars and food vans during pride August 2021. Nice little park.
A cute little park with a tribute to Alan Turing and an installation celebrating the hope and trials of the LGBTQ+ community. Well tended and worth a walk through when exploring Manchester on foot.
This is a small garden area bordered by the gay Village and numerous University buildings. The location of a memorial to Alan Turing and also the beacon of hope in remembrance of aids victims
An oasis of calm amid the hustle and bustle and tall buildings of Manchester city, The Beacon of Hope dedicated to HIV/AIDS victims is moving. There are benches and stone slabs to rest one's feet and reflect..... Alan Turing's statue on a bench (covered with flowers to mark his birthday in June) gazes serenely at the scene. At the time of our visit workers on their lunch break enjoyed a picnic in this small park. Worth a visit.
We visited in order to see the Alan Turing statue and found that quite moving with a good if brief explication. The park is something and nothing, a little oasis amongst the large brick buildings and not worth a visit in its own right but as a brief stop on a walk around central Manchester it's worth doing. It's main function seems to be to act as a focal point for the celebration of gay culture which defines the gay village in which it is situated. That's good to see given the horrid reality of Turing's treatment.
Apart from the statue of Alan Turing, it is not a particularly beautiful little park. There are, however, a few terraces along the adjacent Canal area.
This is my absolute favourite park ive been coming here for ages its just a convenient park close to both Manchester picadilly train station and oxford road train station its always clean (thanks to the volunteers we see ya) the people tend to be friendly but the homeless people tend to take advantage of their kindness to get food or money, sometimes the people tend to organise fun/sad events which is great and interesting love to support whenever i can, also roadies has been my favourite food spot to go to and this park is an excellent place to eat it since the tree give enough cover when there is light rain, oh and on the busier days/nights the police patrol tends to more in this area because of the past incidents in the area
Peaceful 🏞️ park
A small, beautiful park in the city center. A great place to relax. Lots of benches and tables. You can see a monument to the inventor of the computer, a bee, and a love stele. There's a gay neighborhood café nearby, as well as the canal embankment. I recommend it.
Lovely park to hang out in during a lunch break 🙂 catches the sun nicely, and there is usually a pleasant vibe around 🌈
I liked.
