Brussels' gay bars are packed into the Saint-Jacques quarter, on the pedestrian Rue du Marché au Charbon (Kolenmarkt) and a few streets around it, a couple of minutes from the Grand-Place. It's a tight, walkable cluster: you can look into half a dozen bars in an evening without planning a route.

On the Rue du Marché au Charbon

    • Homo Erectus — number 5, at the Bourse end. Tiny, busy and cheap, with a younger mixed crowd.
    • BB Bar Brussels — number 25, opened in November 2025 in the old Le Boys Boudoir.
    • Station BXL — number 27. Bears and older men, with a dance space.
    • Le Belgica — number 32. Small, loud and packed at weekends.
    • Le Dolores — number 40. Small bar with a terrace.
    • Le Baroque — number 44. Relaxed bear bar.
    • Castro Café Brussels — number 94. Calmer café-bar with a terrace.
    • Stammbar — number 114. Cruise and fetish bar with a darkroom.

    A street or two away

    • La Reserve — Petite Rue au Beurre 2A. The oldest gay bar in the city, open from mid-afternoon.
    • Chez Maman — Rue des Grands Carmes 7. Tiny drag bar; the queens perform on the bar.
    • the AGENDA — Plattesteen 18-20. Queer bar with drag shows and quiz nights.
    • Jungle Bar and C'est ma tournée — mixed bars inside the quarter, listed by gay guides as gay-friendly.
    • The Crazy Circle — Rue du Prince Royal 11, Ixelles. Lesbian and FLINTA bar.

Parties and clubs

La Démence is a big gay party, not a bar: about ten nights a year, usually at Fuse Club in the Marolles, which is otherwise a mainstream techno club. The 37th-anniversary weekend is 30 October to 1 November 2026. Flash Club is a Sunday-night gay party, and CAVE is a queer techno party that moves between venues. Steel Gate and Barrio Cafe are party spaces that host some of these nights.

Closed or changed

Le Boys Boudoir (now BB), Cabaret Mademoiselle (closed summer 2026), Why Not, Le You, ChristoBar, La Boule Rouge, Bazaar and Le Duquesnoy are all gone. Older lists still name them.

The scene is small enough that regulars stick to their bar. As a visitor, walk the Marché au Charbon from the Bourse end and go in where it's busy.
