The honest summary: cruising in Toronto in 2026 mostly happens indoors and on apps. The city's ravines and lakeside parks have a long cruising history, but we don't list outdoor spots: public sex is illegal in Canada, and Toronto police have targeted parks in the past, most recently in 2016. The legal, safer and frankly busier options are the three bathhouses and a couple of Church Street bars, all within a short walk of each other.

Where cruising actually happens

Bathhouses

    • Steamworks Toronto, 540 Church Street, is open 24/7. It's the biggest and busiest, especially late on Friday and Saturday nights.
    • Spa Excess, 105 Carlton Street, is also 24/7 and runs a calendar of themed and fetish parties.
    • Splash Steam and Sauna, 1610 Dundas Street West, is smaller, cash only and open daytime and evening.

    Bars

    • Black Eagle, 457 Church Street, is the leather and fetish bar, with theme nights and a rooftop patio. It has the most cruisy atmosphere of any bar in the city.
    • Flash on Church, 463 Church Street, is a male strip club with Cock Bar, a men-only room, upstairs.
    • The Lodge, upstairs at 518 Church, is the bear bar. It's more social than cruisy, but a good place to meet people.

    Apps

Grindr and Sniffies are both widely used in Toronto, and Sniffies in particular is how a lot of local cruising is arranged now. Meet somewhere public first if you don't know the person.

    The beach

Hanlan's Point Beach on the Toronto Islands has been clothing-optional in full since a council vote in June 2023 and has a long gay following. Nudity is legal there; sex is not, and the beach is busy with families on the textile side. In 2026 parts of it were closed because of erosion, so check the City of Toronto beach page before taking the ferry.

    Why we don't list parks

Toronto's ravines and waterfront parks have been cruising grounds for generations, and that history is real. So are the risks. In late 2016, a police operation called Project Marie handed out dozens of bylaw tickets to men in a west-end lakeside park. It caused a public outcry. Plain-clothes enforcement can happen again. Ravines are also dark, steep and isolated at night, and theft and assault are real risks in places where people don't want to call the police.

If you are approached by police anywhere, you have the right to stay silent and to ask whether you are free to go. The HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO) and Egale Canada can point you to legal help.

    History worth knowing

On 5 February 1981 police raided four Toronto bathhouses in "Operation Soap" and charged around 300 men. The next night about 3,000 people marched on 52 Division police station. Most of the charges were later dropped, and in 2016 the police chief formally apologised. The raids are one reason Toronto's bathhouses carry so much weight in the city's queer history.

Closed or changed: gone but still Googled

    • The Cellar, 78 Wellesley Street East — the old basement bathhouse is no longer in any current listing.
    • Club Toronto, Mutual Street — closed in 2010. The building now houses Oasis Aqualounge, a mixed club and not a gay venue.
    • Remington's, Yonge Street — the strip bar closed years ago.

    Practical tips

    • Bring ID to the bathhouses (18+) and cash for Splash.
    • Free condoms are easy to find in the Village, and Hassle Free Clinic at 66 Gerrard Street East offers free, anonymous HIV and STI testing and PrEP support.
    • Get home: Wellesley station (Line 1) is a block from Church Street, and the 320 Yonge bus runs all night after the subway closes.
