Про це місце CafeTica

CafeTica is a small Costa Rican café at 843 Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver, close to the Granville entertainment strip. It's a mainstream, gay-friendly spot, not a gay venue. People come for the Costa Rican coffee, pastries and light meals, and it sits in the cheapest price band. It scores 4.8 out of 5 from about 230 Google reviews, and reviewers mostly mention the food and friendly service. Davie Village, Vancouver's gay neighbourhood, is roughly a 10-minute walk southwest, which makes this a handy coffee stop before heading over.

The entrance to the school of music is simple, as is the room itself, but the coffee is truly excellent. It's especially worth a visit if you like smoothies. The fruit smoothies are freshly made and are fantastic.

★☆☆☆☆

I had an extremely rude encounter with an employee at CafeTica. I was performing a concert at Pyatt Hall inside the VSO School of Music on a Sunday afternoon, and during my break between soundcheck and the concert, I stopped by the cafe for lunch. When I was paying, the tip screen appeared on the card reader, and the employee said to me, “you can afford to tip.” Confused, I replied, “excuse me?” He then pointed at my arm and said, “You can afford to tip because you have tattoos.” This comment was incredibly rude, inappropriate, and presumptuous. A customer’s appearance should never be used to make assumptions about their finances or pressure them into tipping. I was a student at the VSO School of Music years ago and am now a professional violinist working in the city. Unfortunately, this interaction left such a poor impression that I will not be returning, and I’ve shared this experience with colleagues as well.
