Gay beaches in Miami Beach (2026)

The honest summary: Miami Beach has one gay beach, 12th Street Beach in South Beach, and one clothing-optional beach with a gay section, Haulover Beach, which is about 30 minutes north and technically outside the city limits. The rest of the shoreline is a general public beach where nobody will look twice at a same-sex couple.

12th Street Beach

12th Street Beach is the stretch of sand across Ocean Drive from 12th Street, part of the Lummus Park shoreline. It's marked by a rainbow-painted lifeguard tower designed by the architect William Lane, unveiled by the city, and rainbow flags fly there most days. Weekend afternoons draw a mostly gay male crowd, with locals and visitors mixed. It's the base for the Winter Party beach party and sits next to the Miami Beach Pride festival in Lummus Park.

It's a public beach with lifeguards and no fee. It isn't clothing-optional. Palace and the Ocean Drive bars are directly behind it, and Twist is three blocks inland.

Haulover Beach

Haulover Beach is in Haulover Park, north of Bal Harbour, on Collins Avenue around 10800. The northern third of the beach, between lifeguard towers 12 and 16, is a legal clothing-optional area, and gay men gather at its far north end. The crowd is mixed in age and generally relaxed.

Parking in the park is paid, and there's little shade, so bring water and an umbrella. Stay inside the signed clothing-optional area if you undress. The park is patrolled and sex in public, including in the dunes, is illegal in Florida. A volunteer group is campaigning to protect the beach's clothing-optional status, so check for news before a special trip.

Practical tips

    • Go early on weekends to get space at 12th Street, especially in high season (December to April).
    • The sun is strong all year. Bring water and sunscreen, and watch the lifeguard flags for rip currents.
    • Keep valuables out of sight on the sand; theft from beach bags is the most common problem.
    • For Haulover, a car or rideshare is easiest. From South Beach it's about 30 minutes in normal traffic.

Closed or changed

Older guides mention 3rd Street Beach as a gay-popular spot. We found no current source that treats it as a gay beach, so we no longer list it.
